Out Loud is published by Worthy Software LLC, 3819 N Whitman St, Tacoma, WA 98407, USA. This policy covers the Out Loud macOS app and this website.

What the app reads

To tell you whether your Mac is sending audio to the headphones you chose, the app reads the following from your Mac, on demand, while you are using it:

• Your audio output devices — their names, their Core Audio unique identifiers, and how they are connected (Bluetooth, USB, built-in, and so on).
• Which of those outputs is currently the system default.
• The list of Bluetooth devices your Mac has already paired, including their names and hardware addresses. This is how the app confirms that a Bluetooth output really is your headphones rather than a device that merely shares their name.
• Your own settings for the app: which outputs you allowed, the names you want matched automatically, and your chosen keyboard shortcut.

Where that information goes

Nowhere. It is used to make one decision — play the chime, or stay silent and explain why — and then discarded. Your settings are stored on your Mac in the app's own preferences, inside its sandbox container. The app has no servers, makes no network requests, and contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting code. There is no account to create and nothing to sign in to.

Because nothing is collected, there is nothing for us to sell, share, disclose, or hand over, and no data retention period to describe. We could not identify you from using the app even if asked to.

What the app never does

• It never scans for nearby Bluetooth devices, and never pairs or connects anything. It only reads devices you have already paired yourself.
• It never uses the microphone. The app only plays a short chime; nothing is ever recorded.
• It never changes your audio output device, and never changes any volume.
• It never reads your files, your other apps, your location, your contacts, or your clipboard.

Permissions

macOS may ask you to allow Bluetooth access the first time the app checks a Bluetooth output. That permission lets the app read your paired-device list, which is the only way to prove a Bluetooth device's identity. If you decline, the app keeps working for wired and built-in outputs and simply tells you it could not verify a Bluetooth device. You can change this at any time in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth.

The app requests no other permissions. It does not use Accessibility, Input Monitoring, Screen Recording, Full Disk Access, or the microphone.

Diagnostics you share yourself

The app includes a read-only --diagnose command that prints a report about your audio setup. Nothing is uploaded — it prints to your terminal. That report does include device names and Bluetooth addresses, so review it before sending it to anyone, including us. If you email it to support, we use it only to answer your question and delete it afterwards.

Purchases

Out Loud is sold through the Mac App Store. Apple processes the purchase, and Apple is the only party that sees your payment details — we never receive them. Apple provides us with aggregate sales reports that do not identify individual customers. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

This website

This site is static and carries no analytics, no advertising, and no tracking cookies. It sets no cookies at all. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard server request logs (including IP addresses) to serve and protect the site; see Cloudflare's Privacy Policy. If you email us, we keep that message so we can reply to you.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, and to know whether it is sold. We hold no personal information from your use of the app, so there is nothing to access, correct, delete, or port, and nothing is ever sold. If you have emailed us, you can ask us to delete that correspondence at any time.

Children

The app is suitable for all ages and collects no personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. Because the app collects nothing, we do not expect material changes.
